Lithographed by Louis Haghe. From the Standard Folio Edition of the Holy Land, Syria, Idumea, Arabia, Egypt and Nubia . Published between 1841-1849. Fortress of Akabah, Arabia Petraea Upon being received by the governor in the fortress of Aqaba, Roberts and his group discovered that letters of introduction to the governor and Sheik of the Alloween, which had been promised in Cairo, had not arrived. The Sheik then had them sent for, which involved a delay of several days and much frustration to the party (Helen Guiterman) Please excuse the lack of clarity and dark contrast in the photographic images.
