This is a very old one of a kind piece I bought about 20 years ago at the Rose Bowl Swap Meet..........I have moved (retired) to the Mountains and down sizing all my Antiques ..................... This is a large Lock Box , Which is made like a Safe.................... #1 it has a double locking system if you look at picture #1 on the front side of the Box you can see the skeleton key hole this is actually a secondary key lock ............ Their is a brass ornamental plaque on top (Please see Pictures) ....... their is a hidden button on the outside of the safe that when pressed opens that brass plaque on top of the Box (please see picture of the back of the box and look at the welded hinges the middle hinge in the middle is the button (Part of the Hinge) when pushed it opens the brass piece on top and exposes the primary key lock (Same Key) but this key unlocks 6 locking lugs that lock all around the iron box....... once this lock is unlocked you take the same key ( I have two both original ) place it in the secondary lock turn the key on the front of the box and lift on the knob and the lid opens up ! ............ You can now see the very complex locking device on the door/lid of the box ................... Once opened their is a metal shelf that lifts out so you can put stuff below that shelf....................... Also the metal box itself is 21 inches long 14 inches high and 11 inches wide the weight empty is 80 Pounds The Box itself Please see Pictures Ridges and some Scroll work and is double sided not just one wall .................... Pleas note that this is also some kind of early time lock box as well ................. Their two porcelain clock faces (one on each side of the primary lock, (See Pictures) are not working and need to be replaced and the interior of the locking mechanism fixed, this has no bearing on the way it works other than putting a timed response to opening the box winding eight day clocks................ I do not know if any of this is still connected inside of the locking device.......... It is a very old antique and works great the way it is .................. and you could probably add thousands to the worth of this box if it was working ......... All I know it is very old 150 year or older and their is nothing broken on the box or locks and nothing has been fixed or repaired do to damage (other than the clock faces)AND THE CLOCKS ITSELF HANDS ELECT. so it is all original and works great ..............Also I forgot to explain if you unlock the primary lock with the six locking lugs and snap shut/close the brass piece on top you can open the box with the front lock and leave it that way ................... That way you know that the primary lock is locked, ....is by putting the key in the secondary key hole and turning the key if the brass face on the front revolves with the key you know it is not locked from above if the key dose not turn brass face t while turning the key then it is locked above ...................If anyone knows anything about this box please let me know I have searched the inter net trying to find such a box like this and I have never see another like it.................... when sold it will be shipped ups ground and the cost is $120 do to the weight this is truly a museum piece and a one of a kind item
