DE BAERDEMAEKER Félix (Belgian school / Leuven 1836 Gent 1878) Landscape painter and aquafortist. First engaged in a military career, he dedicated himself later to the Fine arts, like other members of his family. Félix De Baerdemaeker started as autodidact artist but he also followed an artistic training at the Academy of Liège and Antwerpen ( 1856-58) and in the atelier of J. Jacobs. Between 1865 and 1870, he lived in Namur and after that he settled for good in Gent. This artist had a very taste for selecting his subjects, most of them are wild sights. The art critic H. Hymans spotted him as a skilful, fine and subtle painter in his choice of the depicted sites. Félix De Baerdemaeker took part in most of the Belgian exhibitions and participated to several Belgian salons : Antwerpen in 1861 and 1864; Gent in 1862, 1865 and 1874, Brussels in 1863, etc..
