"Death in the Afternoon" by Ernest Hemingway. First edition, second printing, which lacks the "A" of a first printing. Published by Charles Scribner's Sons, New York, 1932. The book measures 6.25" x 9.25", 517 pages. Illustrated with black-and-white photographic reproductions. A brand new facsimile (reproduction) dust jacket is included for protection and display. The book is in good condition. Wear and rubbing to the boards with scuffed edges, exposing the boards. A few small spots of discoloration to the spine and rear board. The edges of the spine are worn and frayed with rubbing to the gilt. The front board is starting. Previous owner's inscription in pencil on the front endpaper. Discoloration to the edges of the paste-downs. Staining to the fore-edge of the textblock but it does not seep into the margins of the text. The textblock is gently toned but remains sound. Still considered one of the best books ever written about bullfighting, Death in the Afternoon reflects Hemingway's belief that bullfighting was more than mere sport.
