THIS ITEM: an outdoor lounge chair, deck chair, heavy-duty institutional or commercial grade, from a steamship or oceanliner, from the late Victorian or Edwardian 'gilded' era, early 20th century, in all solid quarter-sawn oak and heavy cast iron, mechanical folding, rocking, and adjustable mechanisms, caned panels, and mohair armrests. Features include: Folds up flat!! Or at least, in those days I guess that was flat! It's still a bulky, heavy piece. I'm not sure how much space this really saves! ; )Heavy iron frame has adjustable back, adjustable front, folding footrest, several positions, and is spring-loaded to double as platform rocker. You can see the wonderful tiger striping on the quartered oak seatframes, with original carmel-colored oak finish, classic for that era! The original makers label is prominently placed, which reads "Manufactured by Marks Adjustable Chair Co. New York USA Patented". Caned panels on the seats in woderful shape! T is only one defect to the cane that I can find, which is on the back panel toward the right, about mid-height, a slice about 1/2" long, not to noticable. The cane is not brittle, seems very sturdy and will comfortably hold a person's weight. Tried it out myself! The arm rests are removable, with bolts beneath that slide into slots on the metal frame. They have that old golden-hued green mohair, which must have been very sumptuous for that time! It just plain looks cool and is a very interesting piece from a bygone era!! Very difficult to see , but in between your standard patina, wear, and minor corrosion, is the original hand-painted leaf-and-vine motif that ran throughout the metal frame. This displays best on the footrest when folded down against the oak. A nice subtle, delicate detail that really gives it that antique flavor. The cherry on top! One other defect: This originally had wheels, and while the metal portions of those casters are still well attached and operational, the wooden wheels themselves have long since crumbled away. Not so surprising for the heft and weight of this item. Do you really need to roll this heavy thing around your home?! Assuming this will be a great addition to an interesting home decor, I think you folks will be fine just leaving it sit w it is. I would leave it just the way it is! Great accent piece! Needs nothing!! RETAIL: $725+Our Price: $250 DIMENSIONS: 41" high max. at the back, 26" wide at the arms, max. 50" long, seat panels 21" square each, seat height about 11-12", back panel height 28".
