This is a rare and beautiful deco MCCLELLAND BARCLAY necklace and bracelet. It is clearly s igned MCCLELLAND BARCLAY on the back. Circa mid- to late- 1930s. Similar pieces in slightly better condition sell for hundreds of dollars. This set was obviously WELL LOVED and WORN A LOT. The necklace is missing 9 rhinestones. The chain on the necklace has darkened in color due to wear, so you may want to change it. The bracelet is missing 2 rhinestones. (Most of the these pieces now have at least a few replacement stones, but I'll leave that up to you.) The backs on both pieces also show wear. McClelland Barclay (1891 – 1942) American pin up painter and illustrator for such periodicals as the Saturday Evening Post, Cosmopolitan, Ladies Home Journal, Redbook and others. He was a celebrated painter of Hollywood film posters in the 1920's and in to the 1930's and in the late 1930's he upstarted a small jewelry fabrication studio where he also produced small utilitarian household objects like ashtrays and bookends for the public. In 1938 he was appointed Assitant Naval Constructor in the US Naval Reserve where while in service he created hundreds of recruiting posters for the Navy. His rich prolific career was cut short when in 1942 the landing ship tank he was stationed aboard was torpedoed and he was reported missing in action. The life and read more
