3 5/8" Long x 1 1/4" Wide Antique Forged Iron Door Latch hook A very interesting example of a forged iron latch dating from the mid to late 18th century, most likely French in origin as similar construction and design can be seen in the book "Antique French Iron Work" by Frank Harvard The simple premise of this latch would be that it would have been fitted to an object with a circular formed nail. The 'hook' area would have been fitted over an opposing nail or other open formed iron work. A latch such as this would have been used on a variety of objects, be it cupboards, doors, or even window latches. Please take a moment to There is some wear to the piece from use, normal wear through the attachment hole. There is also some slight pitting, again evidence of age.
