DEEP PURPLE Made In Japan 1972 UK PURPLE RECORDS 1st CONTRACT PRESS Nr MINT BARELY PLAYED w/EXCEPTIONALLY CLEAN SOUND - GREAT COPY DEEP PURPLE Made In Japan UK EMI/PURPLE RECORDS (TPSP 351) FIRST PRESSING (December 1972) OF DEEP PURPLE'S TREMENDOUS DOUBLE LP SET "Made In Japan"AN INCREDIBLY ATMOSPHERIC LIVE ALBUM WITH A CRYSTAL CLEAR AND POWERFUL CUT DELIVERING SENSATIONAL AUDIO THIS IS THE UK FIRST ISSUE CONTRACT PRESSING WITH GROOVED LABELS WHICH IS SOMETIMES REFERRED TO AS A DECCA CONTRACT PRESSING (a mistake I may have instigated back in 2009 in one of my listings and one which, once it appeared on Popsike, people seem to have run with ever since) BUT AS THE DECCA LABELS NO LONGER CARRIED THEIR CHARACTERISTIC 'GROOVE' BY 1972 (it ended in 1969/70) THE ACTUAL PRESSING PLANT ORIGIN IS UNKNOWNPRESSED ON TWO MID/HEAVYWEIGHT RECORDS THE ' PURPLE' COMPANY LABELS CARRY THE FIRST ISSUE "THE GRAMOPHONE CO LTD..." TOP RIM TEXT MATRIX: TPS 3511 A-1U (etched "PORKY") / TPS 3511 B-1U (etched "DELTA PORK") / TPS 3512 A-1U (etched "PECKO") / TPS 3512 B-1U (etched "PECKIE") MOTHERS: 3/3/3/3 (no stamper letters present on this contract pressing) AND THE TWO RECORDS ARE HOUSED IN THE ORIGINAL, OUTER LAMINATED GATEFOLD SLEEVE "Printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd." DATE CODED '7211' (1972, November) COMPLETE WITH THE TWO ORIGINAL INNERS SLEEVE WHICH ARE SQUARE CUT AND PLAIN WHITE Recorded over three nights in August 1972, Deep Purple's Made in Japan was the record that brought the band to headliner status in the U.S. and elsewhere, and it remains a landmark in the history of heavy metal music. Since reorganising with singer Ian Gillan and bassist Roger Glover in 1969, Deep Purple had recorded three important albums — Deep Purple in Rock, Fireball, and Machine Head — and used the material to build a fierce live show. Made in Japan, its selections drawn from those albums, documented that show, in which songs were drawn out to ten and even nearly 20 minutes with no less intensity, as guitarist Ritchie Blackmore and organist Jon Lord soloed extensively and Gillan sang in a screech that became the envy of all metal bands to follow.
