This fabulous AUTHENTIC/ORIGINAL tin litho diecut figural cow was produced as an advertising piece for the De Laval Separator Co., makers of the gold standard De Laval cream separators.
A bit of cursory research places this piece somewhere around 1900 -- apparently, the number of separators listed in use on the back can peg the actual date. This cow claims "1,250,000 in use"
on the reverse and perhaps some more knowledgeable ebayer will weigh in with a more precise date.
This charming, highly detailed ORIGINAL TIN DIECUT cow measures 5.5 inches wide and stands 3.25 inches tall.
In looking at other listings for De Laval tin advertising cows, this is the first black and white COW I've seen. (There is also a black and white calf currently listed.) In any case, the graphics on this piece which was made by the American Art Sign Co. of Brooklyn, NY (as noted on the back in microscopic print) are stunningly detailed.
There are several condition issues worth noting -- the legs are a bit crimped/bent and the hind quarters of the body have a bit of indentation as well. There is a bit of paint loss owing to some fine scratches -- nothing major but mentioned in the interest of full disclosure. Finally, the bottom of the tail appears to be missing. All of that said, as you can see from the photos, this marvelous collector's item is a wonderfully decorative dairy memento from a gentler, kinder era.
