A finger guard made in the Netherlands in the 19th century. This one has horizontal ribbing. It was made by a silversmith with a hallmark I don't know. The other hallmark is the small sword for silver made between 1814-1905. This finger guard is 1 9/16" long, 11/16" wide. It is in excellent condition, with only one dent at the backside and some light deforming at the right hand bottom side (see picture number six). A ring like this was worn on the second finger of the left hand, while a finger of the right hand was wearing a thimble. The work in progress was laid over the finger guard, that protected the finger against needle pricks. Finger guards like this were made about 1850, mostly in the Dutch city Schoonhoven, a city still known as "the Dutch silver city". See for Dutch finger guards Kay Sullivan Needlework Tools and Accessories , page 66. Within a few months I will make a listing of Dutch antique sewing items but you can buy this delightful finger guard right now.
