The deluxe models colors fade into each other continuously. Fade in and fade out. The basic only allows you to choose one color at a time and stays that color unless you push the button. 2. The Deluxe has the DC adapter which allows you to plug the Dream Lite in. Never have to worry about changing batteries. Or use batteries when traveling, atleast you have the option.
