Democracy in America, Alexis de Tocqueville, mint in plastic wraps. The description is from another like title ( also at auction). Leather covered boards with aeg..all edges of pages gilt stamped, also title on spine. 2000 is likely publishing date. Palladium Press, Marbled endpapers-decorative gilt scroll front cover and spine. This special edition is from The Library of American Freedoms. De Tocqueville made a lasting impression for acuteness and fluency. Many would say no one has hit the nail on the head more adroitly then he. Trenchant observations of institutions, character and culture are hallmarks of his classic. The French had a special relationship with the place where democracy found a home, after all they financed our war against nefarious Albion. What amazes is his insight into the kind of new man in America. The value of this book was instantly recognized on both sides of the Atlantic. Of the course of our self made country few have improved. A Journey through the Border States by Frederick Law Olmsted (urban planner- designed Central Park in NYC), compares favorably, but it was written by a Yankee with an axe to grind. And grind he did. Mint in package is MIP. The book untouched since placed in wraps. It is second hand but (!) untouched by human hands! Shipping: media mail. Fee is erased. Fast and free! Thank you. I read more
