Denishawn Vintage Magazine and Program 1925-1927 This is a lot of original, vintage publications from the Denishawn School of Modern Dance. The lot includes the complete four issues of Volume One of the Denishawn magazine and a souvenir program from about 1927. Denishawn Magazine Four original issues of the Denishawn noted as edition numbers 1 through 4 of volume 1. Each of the four are 20 pages plus cover but the opening two pages of each edition are not paginated. The covers are oversized (i.e., larger than the interior pages) and tfore show significant edge wear. The interior pages are in excellent condition with no observable flaws The covers are pulp and have surface soil that can be easily removed with a pencil eraser. The four magazines were deaccessioned from the Milwaukee Library and most photos carry a stamp " Art Room - Milwaukee Public Library". The interior eight pages of edition number 1 appear to be the Souvenir Program for the 1924-1925 Denishawn season. The general content of all four editions are promotional and include background information on the Denishawn school, history of modern dance and related material. You can see tables of contents of edition numbers 2 and 4 as images. Souvenir Denishawn Program The program is not dated but makes significant reference to the 1925-1926 trip to the Orient taken by the Denishawn company so it's probably from 1927 or 1928. The program also includes descriptions of the eight dances that made up the performance. This material is outside my area of knowledge and I may have missed noting content that would be significant to dance historians. This appears to be unusual original material from a modern dance school that is still widely known and appreciated. Also note that I am presently listing a lot of 45 pieces of sheet music all related to, and picturing, social and ballroom dancing from about 1900 to 1930. Please write me with any questions.
