Up for auction with no reserve is this original Dentzel Second Row Prancer Carousel Horse from the 1890's. It has been expertly restored and mounted on a redwood base. It has a real horse hair tail unlike the carved wooden tails of the later horses. T is still a carousel in Meridian, MI which has a few of these exact horses on it. This one came from a carousel in Massachusetts which was taken down years ago. The body is carved from wood, the stirrups are new, the reins are old. Great muscular detail shows in the legs, chest and neck of this horse and it has been hand painted like a pinto. Even though it's been restored t are still some seams visible and it has not been sanded ultra smooth, in other words it still looks old instead of new with a few character marks from years of giving rides to children. The flash makes it look a little more vivid than in person. It is app. 53 inches from the floor to the top of the ears and about 64 inches to the top of the finial on the pole. Overall length is about 57 inches including the tail. The base is 19 inches by 36 inches long. The other side is just as nicely carved and painted, if you need more pics I can send them to you. T aren't too many of these original carvings around anymore. Made by one of the best carousel animal carvers of the era. This is your chance to own a piece of carousel history.
