VASELINE GLASS 3 1/2" PERFUME BOTTLE WITH TOP 1800s - 1940s Description: This VASELINE GLASS perfume bottle is from the depression era - or earlier (explained below). It is in Very Good to Excellent Condition. The bottle measures approx. 3 1/2 " with the top on and it measures approx. 2 1/2" just to the top, w the top goes in. It is approx . 6/8" across the opening. The "sides" to the bottle alternate between flat and a pattern that resembles English Hobnail. The cut pattern is not as "sharp" or protruding as English Hobnail --it is flatter. One of the pictures shows the pattern fairly well. It is squares, "cut" with "x". The Top or stopper is an " X" not a simple round ball. It has many sharp points, as the " X" is also cut into a circular shape m(as if they started with a ball shape and went from t to a 3-D " X"). It sparkels beautifully. With a magnifying glass -- and only with a magnifying glass - you can see that some of the points have been nicked. This is a beautiful piece. I tend to OVER STATE any "defects" and this piece a debated for a long time before deciding to sell it, as it is very pretty -- but it just doesn't fit in my house or with things I have. T is a very small nick on one of the edges that delineates the start of the flat side, from the "cut" side. I tried to depict it in one of the pictures. It is on the "edge" of the flat side, closer to the top of that flat side, toward the top, or left side of the photograph. T is a picture of the stopper next to the bottle, and it APPEARS that t is some defect or damage to the bottom of the bottle -- NO SUCH DAMGE or DEFECT exists -- that is solely the light or angle of the camera. One flat side has a scratch across it - it is on a diagonal -- but it is very hard to see and I could not photograph it. The only way to see it is to hold it at just the right angle, with light at the right angle. Please see my feedback and note that I probably go overboard in describing potential defects. I do allow returns (see below). Why I believe this is from the 1800s - 1940: I am selling a lot of Depression Glass that belonged to my grandmother (she was married in 1926 and my grandparents were fortunate to live well and she bought a lot of china, glass, silver and crystal). She also was the only girl in two families and inherited a lot of china, glass, silver and crystal. My mother now needs to live w/ me and many days I feel like I'm in an Antique china -glass-silver & crystal store. I need to sell it. My great-grandmother was married in 1890 (I have her formal wedding invitation) and this was in a box with things I know were my great-grandmothers, rather than my grandmother's. It is also not my grandmother's taste (her depression glass is almost all pink and crystal..... but I do have 3 other vaseline pieces -- so maybe it was hers). My Great-Grandparents came to this country in the1860 time frame from Germany (an area that was known as Prussia and later became part of Poland). So those are my reasons. I feel very confident that it was NOT manufactured after 1950. I will take more pictures (and I have more pictures) so just ask if you want to see more or something in particular.
