In 1984 Department 56 introduced the Dickens' Village. Named for the famous author Charles Dickens, it features buildings and accessories based on Victorian England and depicts the places and the people one might visualize while reading one of his novels. Several of Dickens' stories have been the basis for the village's designs including The Old Curiosity Shop. Up for auction is The Old Curiosity Shop, 59056, which retired in 1999. Along with this is Hembleton Pewterer,58009, issued in 1992 and was retired in 1995. Both of these charming buildings are still in their original boxes and have had little use, so they are in excellent condition. Please note that the box sleeve on The Curiosity Shop has a slight tear. The Town Crier and Chimney Sweep, set of 2, number 55697(retired in 2001) are included with this. In addition The Dickens' Village Series 10 year Anniversary Postern 1984-1994. This porcelain accessory re-creates the rustic village gateways which marked the side entrances to old English townships. These four items all of which are retired would add charm to anyones existing village. Thank you for stopping by and looking and please email me if you have any questions.
