This listing is for the following Department 56 Heritage Village Collection, Dickens Village Series building. The building, stryrofoam box, and sleeve are in excellent condition. NOTTING HILL WATER TOWER (includes light cord) #56.58708 "During Dicken's time, a supply of clean water was thought to be the cornerstone of a civilized society, causing water towers to be an important part of Victorian England. The purpose of the tower was to store water and provide adequate water pressure, but many water towers were also distinctive architectural works. This tower includes tidy living quarters for the caretaker on the ground level and first floor. Heat from the caretaker's fire under the center of the main tank would rise thorugh the chimney located on the viewing platform and prevent the water from freezing during the winter."
