Department 56 Dickens' Village "VICTORIA STATION" pre-production Sample Item #56.55743 Size: 12.5 x 7 x 9.5" Produced in 1989 This is an extremely rare one of a kind Department 56 sample in excellent condition. It was likely the first Victoria Station ever made. This version has many differences in colors than the mass produced made for retail version. The 2nd photo is the common retail production version for comparison purposes. The top roof is green on this sample rather than black. The roof above the clock on this piece is stone color rather than black on the made for retail version. Also, it doesn't have the gold accents that the retail version has (clock face, clock bells, pinnacle, gutters on front entrance are green rather than gold, lantern tops are black rather than gold. Some areas that are normally black are light gray on this piece like the clock front, pillars, bottom windows, etc.. Some of the pillars on the center of the building's roof curve inward which is a production flaw seen on some of the early retail versions as well. This is due to warping caused by shrinkage when the piece was fired in the kiln. The only other flaw is the pinnacle on the top was expertly repaired but it's barely noticable (see photos). Samples are made and sent to the designing artist so any design modifications or changes can be made read more
