It's Almost Thanksgiving - Gathering apples and pumpkins, this family knows Thanksgiving is not complete without these ingredients baked into fresh-from-the-oven homemade pies. Dept. 56 began in 1976 with the introduction of six hand-painted lighted ceramic buildings ... the first pieces of The Original Snow Village. On a holiday outing years ago, several friends set off to enjoy dinner at a small country inn. What they found was a quaint village decorated for the holidays with lights glowing amid fresh-fallen snow. These warm feelings can be shared through the artistry and craftmanship celebrated in this nostalgic collection. Each piece is handcrafted of ceramic, individually hand painted, and fired with a glaze finish. Cast into the mold is the Department 56 (trademark) logo-your guarantee of authenticity. Every year pieces are retired and the molds broken leaving room for new pieces that capture the heart and spirit of small town America.

The Heritage Village Collection accessories enhance the unique charm of the lighted pieces in any display. Over the years improved design, sculpting, and hand-painting techniques have resulted in pieces increasingly more detailed and colorful.
