In 1998, world famous Department 56, produced a special, limited edition, lighted building in their "SNOW VILLAGE" line, EXCLUSIVELY for world famous Allied Model Trains in Culver City, CA. The piece was the "LIONEL ELECTRIC TRAIN SHOP," and it was produced under license from world famous Lionel Trains, Inc. of Chesterfield, MI. Only 5,000 of these special pieces were produced, and they were all sold out even before they were delivered from the factory! Prices skyrocketed, and at shows in 1998 and 1999, these rare pieces changed hands for $300.00 to $500.00! The original price was $50.00, which is very close to the opening bid in this auction! These special editions were shipped direclty from the factory in the orient, to Allied Model Trains, and a few pieces were retained at customs, due to to some problem with the duty. When these pieces were finally released by customs, they sat in the Allied warehouse, until now. T are significant differences from the regular production train shop which was produced the following year. They are: 1) The limited edition came with a special "Lionel" blue & orange sleeve , 2) the address on the awning is "4411," the address of Allied, 3) the illustrations in the windows are different, 4) t is no Christmas wreath on the front or trees in the sidewalk, 5) the billboards on the limited piece depict the 1950 and 1952 Lionel catalogs , while the regular one uses the 1953 & 1954's, 6) the roof color is different, and 7) the Dept. 56 stock number is different. As most of you know, this piece is all ceramic, and lights up with a 110 volt "night light" type of bulb, which you plug directly into any standard wall outlet. The shop is 8" wide, 6 1/2" deep and 7" high. The Snow Village buildings will look GREAT on your "O," O-27," or "S" gauge train layout, your Christmas village display, or this piece will make a wonderful addition the den or office of any Lionel collector. This particular example is ABSOLUTELY BRAND NEW -- never out of the box until I took these photos -- in the original box, with the original sleeve, light cord and hang tag, but I am selling it with NO RESERVE!
