Derby gallant figure 'The Dresden Shepherd' c1760-70

A superb early Derby figure of a gallant from a pair known as 'The Dresden Shepherds' c1760-1770. A well-modelled figure with an imperious stance characteristic of much early Derby. In his book 'Derby Porcelain', John Twitchett refers to the pair as [possibly] representing 'street sellers' but Bradshaw terms them as described [see his '18th Century English Porcelain Figures' page 196 plate108]. Condition: Virtually perfect. I can detect no restoration and the only losses are a couple of the bocage flower petals. The flower in his left hand has been broken off but cleanly restuck. Chip under the base. Marks: None. Three patchmarks to base. Dimensions: 8" [20.5cms] high.
