Hallmarked with Derby SP Co. EPNS Wm. Mounts Hand Beaten Pitcher. This is a wonderful wide squat pitcher with an large well formed lip. Imagine the time it took to hammer this piece by hand! It is in very good condition. It measures 8" high and 8 1/2" wide (with the handle). Old and certainly well made.The Derby Silver Company was originally called Birmingham. Founded in 1873, they were renowned silverplaters of holloware and made decorative wares of Sterling Silver. Their U.S. Patent of June 26, 1888 registered their Sterling trademark for use on forks, spoons, tea sets, brushes, mirros, and pitchers. Derby (also used Victor) was one of the original companies which formed the International Silver Company in 1898.Over the years, they gradually dropped the flatware production and concentrated on silverplated holloware. The factory continued to operate in Birmingham (Derby) until July 1933 when it was consolidated with other plants in Birmingham.Count on us for accurate descriptions and excellent pictures, so you have NO surprises.
