Chantry Fine Art has been in business for over twenty years selling at major antiques fairs including the NEC. We specialise in fine arts, miniatures, water colours and oils. Billing Antiques is a subsidiary of Chantry Fine Art. DICKENS' CHARACTERS JOSEPH CLAYTON CLARKE "KYD" (1856-1937) Clarke was a very well known illustrator specialising in Dicken's characters. He adopted the non-de-plume "Kyd" His characters were brilliantly observed and drawn in a very recognisable style. He illustrated many editions of Dickens' works. He also contributed to The Fleet Street Magazine, Fun and The Star. This particular series of 19 original illustrations are in ink and watercolour and are drawn on Whatman paper watermarked 1903. This suggests that they were used in an edition of Dickens' works published around this time. All are signed "Kyd" in red and are enclosed within a rectangular red frame with the name of the character at the top left corner and the book title at the bottom right. We have not shown this, preferring to reproduce a larger character figure for scrutiny. THIS CHARACTER IS "TONY WELLER" FROM "THE PICKWICK PAPERS" All are in very fine condition, with some very minor aging at some edges not affecting the picture.
