Dieppe France Ivory Carved Mythological Nymph and Satyr

's a fine antique carved ivory mythological scene of a nymph and satyr. This round relief has a brass or bronze surround and it is seated in a wooden frame. The frame measures six and three quarters by seven inches. The relief is four inches in diameter. This piece is signed "Graillon" at the bottom. I believe this piece was carved by Pierre Adrien Graillon (French 1809-1872). He is a well known ivory carver and sculptor from Deippe. The region is well known for its decorative ivory carvings and examples are referred to simply as Dieppe ivory. The back of the frame has a label which reads: "Given to John J. Cook by Larry Daymont American Embassy, Paris 1939". I have not researched the names on the label. This relief has two vertical cracks plus a smaller one that radiates from a spot that was cut through the ivory at the top of the nymphs head. That said, this relief is in very good condition. T are no chips, broken or missing parts, or repairs to the ivory or the frame. This is fine piece of Deippe ivory. The carving is exceptional.
