Dietz-Vesta N.Y.C. Railroad Lantern w/Unique Blue Globe
Please read shipping limitations(down the page...) before bidding Shipping is by USPS Priority Mail Only Insurance Optional but Recommended Dietz Vesta Railroad Lantern Uncommon Blue Globe N.Y.C (New York Central) Your bid is invited on this Dietz Lantern: Description: This lantern measures about 10-1/4 tall. The bail handle adds about 8 inches more when raised. It's about 7-1/2 inches diameter at the widest point. The Dietz - Vesta trademark appears centered on the top inside an oval, and N.Y.C.S. is on the side of the top as well. T are patent numbers dated 1928, but I understand these lanterns were in use into the 1950s. T are some hand-stamped numbers below the patent notice, but too faint to read with accuracy. The BLUE globe has "N.Y.C. LINE" etched in the glass, with the Dietz - Vesta trademark above, molded in the glass. On the opposite side of the globe, the letters "WX" appear inside a larger letter "C" are molded in the glass, perhaps a Corning Glass mark. I found the use of a blue lantern on the internet: According to several websites, a blue lantern was used to mark cars or locomotives that weren't to be moved, ie: while undergoing repairs or service. Condition: As you can see from the photos, this lantern has surface rust which adds to its allure . It is entirely intact with no missing parts. The fuel tank is dry, and the wick is in place. T is a minor chip on the upper lip of the globe, visible in the last photo. The photos were shot against a neutral (photo-gray) background to improve color accuracy, and provide a color reference. The colors quite accurate. Note that the pictures will enlarge for a very detailed view. (Click the " Super sized Image " underline) Bid in confidence! No Reserve - Good Feedback - Fair Shipping - Money Back Combined Shipping: Postal rates shown are for this item in 1 box, by USPS Priority Mail. Additional winning items ship for the price of just the few extra ounces, and very often, " FREE" , if the postal weight bracket doesn't change. Please wait for a 'combined' invoice ...and I'll save you plenty on postage! Insurance: I will use all due caution when packing your item...but poor handling does occur! Please consider optional insurance. Please see "Terms of Sale" below. NOTES ABOUT SHIPPING: (1.) With over 2,000 shipments behind me, Please be assured that I'll get your parcel to you safely. I appreciate those buyers who continue to acknowledge 'good packing job!' when they leave positive feedback. I apologize to those who have experienced a delay in shipping...but I'm sometimes called away for other responsibilities. I don't inflate postage beyond actual cost! I base postage on the official US Postal Service rates and add only $1.50 ($3.00 for overseas and Canada) to cover packaging expense. I pack every item carefully with new or recycled packaging material and the added S/H doesn't always cover the actual cost. Computer paper, tape, bubble-wrap, zip-lock bags, sticky-back postage labels and other supplies drive up the costs...and then t are fees assessed by eBay and PayPal. Foreign orders are assessed an 'exchange fee' by PayPal. Believe me: $1.50 (or $3.00 for "Foreign") added for S/H isn't a winning proposition! (2.) Whenever possible, I use USPS-supplied packing material...but that requires PRIORITY MAIL. If your purchase requires a HARD BOX to prevent shipping damage, ...that's the only way I'll do it. Staples and Office Depot sell similar boxes for an outrageous price, and I don't buy their boxes, just to be able to ship to you by USPS First Class. If I did so, the costs (to ship 1st Class) would be higher (than Priority Mail)! (3.) None of us have any control over postage rates....but I'd rather listen to you 'gripe' about the cost of postage than have you disappointed with a damaged shipment....
