The "Colonel," as he became known, raced with and against some of the best drivers in the sport back in the early to mid 1960s and he was as competitive as anyone. The fact that he had forged a bond and a lifetime friendship with another Floridian, a man by the name of Don Garlits, certainly didn't hurt his career. In fact, Art may be the only guy who got a car from Don and then gave it back.
