~ Estate-Finds-R-Us ~ No Reserve! Dino Martens, Aureliano Toso Glassworks, Murano, Venice, Italy 1950's This is a stunning and very large, rare mid-century Murano mezza filigrana duck ! I purchased this at a Living Biltmore Estate sale in Phoenix and the owner told me this was a Venini., but after much research, I found this is to be a creation by Corrado 'Dino' Martens for Aureliano Toso. Measurements: Height: 10 3/4" inches or 27.3 cm Beak to Tail: 8 3/4" inches or 22.2 cmSide to side: 4" inches or 10.2 cm Condition: Mint Condition! No chips, cracks, or repairs that I can find. I carefully went over this and it's perfect! Clear glass with diagonal lattimo (opaque white glass) and aqua blue mezza filigrana threads, beak and claws gold foil clear with red eyes. According to" Murano Zoo, Birds by Aureliano Toso", t he bills of the old Aureliano Toso birds are often not very artful, and they often have a sharp tooling mark on the left side of the bill. Messa filigrana is a new term for me, but another eBayer in the Glass forums explained it to me and I found it online at the glossary. It litterally means half filigree. Basically it is a decoration made of fine, parallel colored threads "cannes" that are between layers of crystal, and twisted and shaped during glassblowing.
