Discworld Stamps - 50p Cabbage Green (the original 2004 issued in green, not the 2005 'full' colour release), an entire 4x5 sheet, as Never released for sale!
Mint Condition, stored in a hardback envelope in a storage container since 2004! Back in 2004, Bernard Pearson asked me to assist on a task to produce a First Day Cover, to be used by Waterstone's book store in 10,000 first editions of Terry Pratchett's Going Postal. (At this time the stamps were very new, and largely unheard of.) As part of the arrangement, Bernard was going to produce the 50p Cabbage stamp (which as I recall was originally going to look like the later 2005 release did, with deeper greens and browns) as an exclusive stamp Just for use on the First Day Cover. I was supplied the image to be used to Print that sheet of stamps (more on that later), along with various other items, and from them, with Bernard, created the Going Postal cover and insert. Producing this item for Waterstones required I be supplied with a few stamps, over 40,000 of them in fact, in sheet form! And after much ripping up of sheets, sticking, franking and what not had gone on, I had in my possession just ONE sheet of Cabbage Greens left intact. A sheet of a stamp that was never to be released for sale... Needless to say, this was duly filed away with my more Prized Discworld collectables, and has so far avoided all my temptation to sell it. Until now! As I'm sure many of you will be aware, Bernard had other sheets of this stamp left over in his possession that, due to the Waterstones arrangement, he could not sell, and they were split into Singles and issued with a Stamp Journal. As such, it's unlikely even Bernard has another sheet of these remaining anywhere. The 50p cabbage sheet is listed on a well-used Excel file discworld stamp catalogue has only having One sheet known to exist. This, to the best of both Mine and Bernard's knowledge IS that sheet. I wouldn't ask you to take that Just on faith though - so working with Bernard, I have produced a Provenance (or Prove-An-Ounce, don't ask me why, I just did it) certificate, as shown in one of the Images here. This certificate states to the exceptional rarity of this item, and is signed by Bernard Pearson. I will date it on the date the lucky winner of this auction will be receiving the items. It's a lovely certificate, printed off by Bernard's own hands, and I'm sure will be a treasured item in your collection along with the stamps themselves. So, the auction is for: • The Sheet of Stamps • The Signed Certificate • A Going Postal FDC (just in case you don't have one, so you can directly compare the stamps) Needless to say, this is an Extremely valuable item, and as such I've set a reserve of £200. (Many people beleive that this sheet could be broken up into Corners etc and be sold on for more than this value, but I beleive that would be an offense to all that is being 'A Collector'!) I will post it using whatever service the winning bidder feels most appropriate/safe/secure, and will gladly arrange a meet in person for handover if preferred, if it's possible based on the winners location. I will post overseas, but it should be acknowledged that this is at the Buyers own risk. (A note for the really interested in such things: When producing the certificate, I used the original Cabbage Green sheet image I was supplied early in the FDCs life. It was only afterwards I realised that this image was Not the 2004 Green version of the stamp sheet I am selling. :D This just seemed so fitting in a 'sports' and collectables kind of way, so I didn't bother fixing it. As such, the certificate certifies to the original Cabbage Green, and then shows the 2005 sheet as a visual reference. It doesn't take away the validity of the certificate, just makes it all the more amusing! )
