If you hold happy memories of summer evenings at Disneyland, Walt Disney World, or even the parks overseas, just seeing this image has probably started you humming the unforgettable theme music. The lightning bug wearing a beanie, for decades, has been an feature performer in Disney's nighttime pageant of "twinkling lights and electro-magnetic musical sounds!"The real Lightning Bug in the parade is referred to as a "whirly bug" because he can spin a full 360 degrees on a dime. He's usually accompanied by his pals, a bespectacled turtle and some fast-moving snails. "For the replica, we copied the original construction plans for the parade unit and scaled it down to a 13" high figure. To mass-produce the piece wrapped in miniature Christmas tree lights proved to be impossible, so we borrowed technology from another of our favorite childhood icons, the "Light-Brite" toy.
