DISNEY'S THE LITTLE MERMAID 1989
URSULA, FLOTSAM, and JETSAM Animation History!! This was the last Disney animated feature to use hand-painted cels and analog camera and film work. These are beautiful one-of-a-kind hand-painted original production cels of the infamous villain Ursula, and her henchmen Flotsam and Jetsam, as Ursula plots Ariel's undoing she confides her evil plan and they react in shock. (Not surprising for an eel to be shocked!) Around her neck is the necklace which is to contain Ariel's beautiful voice. If you are a student of animation, you will see that Flotsam and Jetsam illustrate the extremes of a "take" in animation, the squash and stretch which gives animation its visual edge over live action, rare to see both extremes in one drawing! T is also an effects layer of bubbles tracing their movements, one of the great achievements of this film before the days of computer animation., as well as a color reproduction background. If you are a collector then you know how rare it is to find a set of cels from a single frame assembled into a complete image of Disney original production art. As you can see in the pictures it is triple-matted with white, purple and green acid free mat board, enhancing the presentation with the colors of the characters. The frame is a rich burlwood laminate moulding, a generous 1 5/8 inches wide. The frame alone is worth hundreds of dollars at any custom framing store! I acquired this art for my personal collection from the gallery Animation USA and it has hung proudly in my nonsmoking home ever since. It bears the Walt Disney Company's silver seal used exclusively on original feature production art. The cels are in excellent condition, so flat you can barely see a shadow (Only by reflected light on the ink lines can I see that t are three layers), and have remained in the frame since I purchased them in the early 1990's. Approximate Dimensions: Frame: 21 inches wide, 17 1/2 inches high. Mat opening: 12 inches wide, 8 3/8" high. Frame Moulding: 1 5/8" wide, 1/2 inch thick. Ursula image: 5 inches wide, 5 1/2 inches high. Flotsam and Jetsam image: 3 1/2 inches wide, 5 1/3 inches high. 16-field cel size. Please note that international buyers must cover shipping costs to be determined after close of auction.
