Disneyland Hotel Monorail sign - only one that exists!
Sold For:
or Sign In to see what it's worth.
Here's a rare chance to own a vintage Disney item that no other collector in the world has! This sign hung on the platform at the Disneyland Hotel where passengers would get on and off the monorail.
The sign is made out of 3/16" thick yellowish plastic that is not too fragile, and still has a lot of flexibility to it. There are a few splashes of whitish paint on the sign. The letters are attached to the sign by glue (no screws), none of them are loose or misaligned, and they are of uniform color. The sign measures 43 1/4" by 20 3/4". The cracked off and missing piece in the lower right corner is 12 3/4" across and 6" down if measured along the sides of the sign. The letters on the top line are 2 3/4" by 1 1/2", and the bottom letters are 4" by 3". You could hang the sign on the wall as is, or you could easily but carefully display it as a working sign. In the nighttime picture I show, I simply propped two 50 watt bulbs behind the sign. You would use fluorescent light instead and build a case to contain the light. It was fun to track down photos of this actual sign hanging above the monorail platform in 1966. The photos came courtesy of Dave at . He has an amazing treasure trove of vintage photos of Disneyland on display on his site, an active blog, and (shameless plug) his own artwork and photos for sale. Thank you, Dave! I'm happy to do my best to answer any questions you have, though I'm sure any potential buyers will be more knowledgeable than me n the area of Disneyana. Please note the shipping cost. I'm not gouging on that. I hate gouging. Ebay's rate estimator is $78 UPS Ground for the sign, using the weight and a 50"x25" box. I tacked on a few more for the shipping supplies. Local buyers (Los Angeles) are welcome to pick up from me in person. Here's an unusual chance to get a one-in-the-world vintage item, and a must-have for those who specialize in Disneyland monorail or hotel collectibles. I'm starting the auction at 99 cents to give everyone a chance to get in on the fun. !
