Awesome Tinker Bell 1950s Production cel ART CORNER Description 1950's Original Production cel of Tinker bell. One-of-a kind. An amazing Vintage image of Tinker bell from the 1950s. This is an Original Production cel of Tinker bell as she appeared at the introduction of "The Disneyland" television show of the mid-1950's. The Art Corner label on the back, hints that this piece is from 1955-57. Tinker bell pats herself on the fanny while imitating an Indian during the "Frontierland" into. Wow, what a terrific image to find. The Cel is all hand painted. Celluloid size is about 10 x 7 inches, with Tink measuring 5 x 2.5 inches. BONUS - This is a Art Corner Cell Set-up, original SOLD at Disneyland in the 1950's. Art Corner Pieces are Premium pieces to collect as it was the Only Official Disney Art Program from 1955 to the mid 1970s. BONUS #2 - We recently had this cel autographed by the Original Tinker Bell, Miss Margaret Kerry. Signature is all in GOLD Paint Pen, it'll last forever. This piece is a treasure in anybody's animation or Disneyana collection. Margaret Kerry (born Peggy Lynch, circa 1930, Los Angeles) is an American actress, motivational speaker and radio host best known for her 1953 work as the model for Tinker Bell in the Walt Disney Pictures animated feature, Peter Pan. Kerry answered an audition call during the planning stages of the film. The audition, supervised by Disney animator Marc Davis, required her to pantomime the motions that would eventually be animated as Tinker Bell, such as preening in a mirror at her feet. She won the audition and spent the next six months at the Disney Studios on a mostly empty sound stage pantomiming the role on film. The studios provided props as well, notably a giant keyhole mounted on a stand as well as a pair of giant scissors, later used in the scene in which Tinker Bell became trapped in a jewelry box. Kerry also provided the basis of the red-haired mermaid in the Neverland lagoon scenes, with spoken lines. Since Disney released the film at about the time Marilyn Monroe had begun to make an impact, an urban legend immediately sprung up attributing the role to her. Disneyland Art Corner Store Cels sold at Disneyland's Art Corner Shop in Tomorrowland from the mid 1950's to the late 1960's. These cels are trimmed, placed in a small matt against either a lithograph background or a sheet of coloured paper. A gold seal is attached to the back of the matt which is the authenticating sticker. Piece is know as a ART CORNER piece that was originally Sold at Disneyland in The Art Corner Store on Main Street USA. Brief HISTORY of the Disneyland Art Corner Shop In 1955, the year Disneyland opened, in a section of Tomorrowland there was a area now long gone called “ The Art Corner ” which sold Disney animation cels from films such as Lady and the Tramp , Sleeping Beauty, 101 Dalmatians, Mickey Mouse Club and cels from various shorts . The place was full of bins of cels that customers could paw through at will (yes, that's how it was described to me by someone who was there, and bought plenty of them)--everything from "Alice In Wonderland" to "Peter Pan", "Sleeping Beauty", numerous TV programs and shorts, etc. These cels were selected by studio artist, from the 1000’s of cels created for a production, based on attractiveness. Cels were the character (s) were Not good looking, were discarded. So only the Best ones were allowed out of the market. Every Art Corner Cel was matted and a Gold Art Corner Label attached to the backing. This label is what makes Art Corner Pieces so valuable. read more
