You are bidding on the NICEST WWII Pilots A-2 Leather Jacket I HAVE EVER SEEN!!! FULLY DOCUMENTED Purchased from the Veteran (Eldon P. Lietz) in 1992 (for 510.00 I might add, I still have the purchasers USPS MO CC) I acquired it next. This A-2 Comes FULLY DOCUMENTED w/ a picture of Eldon Lietz, Typed History of Eldon Lietz SERVICE PILOT in the 1st AIR TRANSPORT SQUADRON (MOBILE) His History is INCREDIBLE I will let the lucky winner read the write up (Done by Eldon Lietz himself) is a little Preview : "During my service with the 1st ATS I was awarded The Distinguished Flying Cross, Two Air Medals, and Five Battle Stars for the Battles of India, China, Burma, The Island of Luzon in the Phillipines, and the Battle for Okinawa. I was one of five of the original pilots that volunteered to remain with the squadron when they were transferred to Okinawa." The history writted by Lietz is 2 Pgs. and is VERY DETAILED He retired after 42 years flying and had over 34,000 flight hours! He retired from the Air Force after the Viet Nam war as a Major w/Command Pilot rating. He also States "The Jacket was issued to me at Long Beach Army AirField in Nov. 1943, the squadron patch was designed by our maintenance officer, Captain Smokey Stover. The fusalage of the C-46 looking at it from the nose was a large and a small circle joined. He painted a portion of that white. The heater air in-take made the mouth and he painted two black quarter circles for the eyes of the skull. Crossed bones were added and it made a very distintive looking C-46. We adapted that for the Squadron Insignia." Eldon Lietz Major USAFR -Retired. Excellent detailed history, Furthermore; another history: FIRST...MOBILE!! An Historical Report to the FIRST AIR TRANSPORT SQUADRON (MOBILE) From March 23, 1944 to Nov. 30 1944 Excerpts from a report writted by the Commanding Officer of the 1st ATS (Mobile) 17 pgs. ALSO EXC Information. Back to the A-2, as I said it is in EXC Condition IN AND OUT!!! (See Photos) Original Leather BLOOD CHITS ARE EXTREMELY RARE you ALMOST NEVER SEE THEM!!!!
