This spectacular little box is of white pine, and measures 10 3/4" wide, 5 1/4" high and 6" deep. Corners are mitered and nailed with fine nails, not dovetailed. Condition is excellent, with no repairs or replacements, with the exception of an early trim piece affixed to the inside front of the lid as reinforcement, and a few renails in the area of the lockset. See closeup. Also, to be picky, some of the hinge fasteners are lost and replaced many years ago with wire nails or tiny screws. Again see the closeup (the bottom left fastener appears original and consistent with the other fasteners on the piece). The surface is original, and untouched. Very light all-over wear. Cobalt blue paint is vibrant. We have found similar boxes in Pennsylvania, w we live for many years, but cannot say with certainty w this box was built. It was a gift to us years ago from a PA collector. Belongs in a museum.
