PLEASE NOTE: LARGE AND ORNATE EASEL you will see in the pictures is not included in the auction but is available in another auction, please check out my other listings.Outstanding vintage carving of the characters Don Quixote and Sancho Panza from Man of La Mancha on horseback. Don and Sancho have their heads turned, looking at each other in profile, and the perspective is taken from the back of the departing horses. Awesome detail, beautiful dark wood chipped away to reveal kind of an elongated rendition. Helmet, outreaching gloved hand, sword, saddlebags, shield, bony horse's haunches and swinging tails --- even one of what looks to be one of the horse's testicles is evident. VERY high relief, background plaque is just under 1/2 inch thick, but carvings rise as high as 1 and 3/16ths inches. Really a beautiful panel, it measures 9 inches wide by 16 inches high. Made in Spain label on back, there is also a small sticker with the numbers 31-12-62; I am not sure if this refers to a date. The panel itself has the slightest bow to it, I tried to capture this in the last picture which is taken from the top.Thanks for looking!
