This is a lot of very rare, 50th Anniversary Doolittle Raiders items from the special commemorative ceremony and flight by B-25 launched from the USS Ranger. The event took place on April 21, 1992, on board the USS Ranger CV-61 off the coast of San Diego, California. Two B-25 bombers took off from the USS Ranger to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the launch of the Doolittle Raiders from the deck of the USS Hornet. Special letters and envelopes were available to be flown on board one of the two B-25 bombers as it took off from the USS Ranger and then flew over the home of Jimmy Doolittle in Northern California. Signed by Doolittle Raider Hank Potter (Navigator Crew plane #1) and Travis Hoover (Pilot plane #2) The items in this lot are: #1. Special letterhead signed by Hank Potter, Travis Hoover, Lt. General L. C. Craigie, who was the 1st USAAF officer to fly a military jet, the XP-59A, Captain Dennis McGinn, CO of the USS Ranger (CV-61), and Jack Craigie, Test Pilot at Edwards Air Force Base. #2. Special Event Envelope cancelled on board the USS Ranger CV-61 on April 21, 1992. The items were then placed in this envelope and flown off the USS Ranger in a B-25. #3. Card #1 signed by Carl A. Nelson, who was the helmsman on the USS Hornet (CV-8) the day of the Doolittle Raid, and 50 years later at the helm of the USS Ranger read more
