This is perhaps one of the most interesting and unusual dog tags I have seen from the State of Maryland. It is copper, 29 mm (about 1.1"). Obverse (incuse): Dorchester 47 MD. Reverse (incuse): School Board Dog Tax 1914. In the State of Maryland dog tags are issued by the counties. Dorchester County is on the eastern shore of Maryland. What I find interesting about this tag is that the original date has been obliterated and the date 1914 scribed by hand. This was a not uncommon practice in earlier times and was done in order to reuse tags that were unissued in previous years. We'll never know what the original year of issue was because a really good job was done in concealing the original date. This tag was used. Please see scan for condition.
