Royal Doulton Captain Cook figurine designed by William K Harper. HN #2889. Captain Cook appears here in his British naval officers uniform. He is reviewing charts of the lands he discovered. A South Pacific tribal mask is at his side.
James Cook (1728-1779) was Britain's greatest mariner and navigator. He discovered Australia, New Zealand, New Guinea and New Caldedonia. Rediscovered Sandwich Islands (Hawaii) where he was killed. Charted North American coast from Oregon up to Bering Straight. Also charted Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and St Lawrence River. On his 3 year voyage of discovery, 1772 -1775, he lost only one man.
Measures 4-1/2 x 5 x 8-1/2 inches.
Very good to excellent condition. No chips, cracks, dings or repairs.
Full Royal Doulton backstamp on bottom with model number and name.
