Visit My eBay Store-"Doulton Art Pottery" A Doulton Lambeth art pottery rarity. This is the only one I have had in my 40+ years of Doulton. The handle of this 13" large serving spoon is finely worked art pottery and the bowl and stem appear to be heavy silver plate as I can find no hallmarks and it is hefty. While you cannot tell the artist without destroying this piece I feel it is very much in the style of Frank Butler with the typical combination of incised lines and raised beading. You can see a color plate showing many of Butler's works in the new Lambeth book on page 101. There is no doubt of it being Doulton but again no mark visible, but I guarantee it to be Doulton and I would estimate its date to be 1870's to 90's. This piece would look very attractive polished up, however some like it the way it is, so this way the buyer can choose. Condition: The Art pottery is in excellent condition, but on the silver plate, close to the handle is a stress line in the metal only, the only other possible fault is in the row of tiny beading around the top end of the handle, and one bead is missing to complete the circle, however it is glazed at that spot, so it must have left the factory like that, intended or not ?
