This auction is for an extremely rare piece of automotive service station memobillia. It is a salesman sample of a set of oil, trans fluid or anti freeze storage cans for use in servicing autos in the 30's and used in the automotive service / gas station. The company it represents was ( I think they are long gone) the Dover company. They produced varies items of metal and tin many used in gas station environments. These storage cans are in very good condition considering their age ( I would guess 30's or 40's but I am not positive). they measures about 3" wide by 3" tall and they come in a metal case that fits tightly.The case measures 3-1/8" x 3-1/8" x about 3-1/2" tall. Finely detailed with the name "Dover" embossed on the case. no dents or real damage other than dirt and grim and some sparse surface corrosion. Each can fits into the case. the case has a leather strap and buckle. the buckle is complete but the leather strap is broken from use. the cans appear to be copper plated. The cans are in excellent condition but one is missing the screw on top as pictured. Very fine construction with great detail. I am auctioning 5 seperate but distinct items which were not doubt a set of salemans samples offered by a traveling salesman of the Dover Company during the golden age of automotive marketing. I have never seen this item before and feel it is very rare and valuable to the collector of salesman samples, automotive and service station (now an oxy moron) items. I will combine multiple auctions wins for best freight rates. ( example, if you were to win all 5 auctions the postage would be 6.50.
