DON'T MISS THE OPPORTUNITY TO GRAB THIS DOZEN CRAB NODULES AS WE WON'T BE COLLECTING AGAIN UNTIL FEBRUARY OF 2007 DUE TO NOT BEING ABLE TO ACCESS THE SITE DURING THE ALABAMA HUNTING SEASON. I AM STARTING THIS GROUP OF CRABS AT AN UNBELIEVABLE .99 CENTS WITH NO RESERVE !! This auction offers a group of 12 "MUFFIN" crab nodules from the Mesozoic Era, Late Cretaceous Period, Maastrichtian Age collected on private property in September of this year with landowner's permission from a site which is part of the Ripley Formation in West Central Alabama, U.S.A... These nodules range from about four to six inches in length making them average specimens from the site. These concretions all have decent shape and will make great additions to any fossil collection or outstanding prep projects for someone. These nodules contain somewhat rare, fossilized crab specimens known as Avitelmessus grapsoideus Rathbun , also locally known as "MUFFIN CRABS", or even more rare...an occassional Dakotacancer crab fossil has been found in these nodules. These are interesting specimens and would make great additions to your collection. I have been collecting fossils for many, many years and these are personal finds. AS FAR AS WE KNOW, WE ARE THE ONLY CURRENT SOURCE FOR AVIT CRAB NODULES. WE HAVEN'T SEEN ANY OTHER AVITS BEING OFFERED AND WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL COLLECTORS MENTION THE FACT THAT NO ONE ELSE HAS THEM AVAILABLE !!! We have recieved reports from collectors and prepators all over the world who have purchased our crab fossils and had great success in prepping them for private collections, museums and university collections. We literally have satisfied customers all over the world, throughout the United States and Canada as well as Asia, Europe, Australia and South America. I have included photos of these crab nodules from both top and bottom as well as a frontal (profile) picture, so bidders can see the exact fossil concretions you are bidding on. You will recieve the unprepped fossils you see in the photographs. In order to give bidders an idea of what may be inside these concretions, I have included the LAST THREE pictures. These are three different Avit crab nodules we have collected and sold, which were prepped by collectors and prepators in Germany and France using air scribes and by a collector in British Columbia, Canada (fossily2000) using an air scribe and air abrasive tool... The crabs you are bidding on have had no prep work done and are complete as shown in the pictures, just as they were found in the creek by myself and my wife. If you have any questions about these crab concretions, PLEASE ask before placing a bid! These fossils are completely covered by matrix (thus concretions or nodules) and WE DO NOT DO ANY PREP WORK. These crabs must be prepped in order to expose the crab fossil inside. Again...the THREE photos of prepped crabs are examples of work done by a collectors in Germany, Canada and France. YOU ARE NOT BIDDING ON PREPPED CRAB FOSSILS!! These nodules are each different. They are all potentially excellent fossil crab bearing concretions; however t has been an occasional nodule which contained a poor or fragmented fossil. Most contain very good or excellent Avit fossil crabs. I have dozens of pictures from collectors, universities and museums all over the world who have had outstanding success prepping these nodules. These nodules have crab fossils in varying degrees of preservation, some better than others and I don't know how to judge them; however, occasionally a nodule may contain a poor example due to predation, molting, or various environmental variances. It would be impossible for me to guarantee the condition of a crab fossil inside these nodules, but given the opportunity, I will strive to, within reason, satify any buyer who finds a bad crab fossil inside.
