Up for auction is ONE DOZEN Hand Blown GLASS EGGS I believe farmers used to put these under the hen to help her produce more of her own eggs.
Also used when darning socks, giving the sock a shape when repairing it. They make great EASTER decorations! All are unique but similar, as they are hand-made. Measure approximately 2-1/2 inches long x 1-3/4 inches wide. DESCRIPTION: Of the Twelve: Nine are relatively transparent - I can see shadows through them when held up to the light. THREE are larger and of a denser glass and have a heavier feel to them. I cannot see shadows through these three when held up to the light. The ends of these also have the remnants of the glass 'stick' that was broken off after being blown - they are definitely OLD! Eleven have NO chips, cracks or repairs. One is cracked (see below). The three older ones, and one of the transparent eggs have surface scratching from darning needles, but these light scratches do not distract from their beauty. The six on the top row in the picture are all MINT condition and "TRANSPARENT". The two in the middle of the picture are also relatively transparent, like the six described above BUT one is cracked yet still whole (no missing pieces). The other is NOT cracked, but has thinner glass and swirls can be easily seen. I have closeup pictures of both of these eggs. Of the bottom four , the three on the left are made of the denser glass. The one on the right has been used for darning socks more than all the rest. I will package these little lovelies extra carefully! Please ask if you have any questions as I know what needs to be known is not always shown. Thanks for looking.
