This is a Dr. Grabow Westbrook wire-carved poker made by the Sparta , NC, pipe makers sometime between 1955 and 1985. This model is one of the most sought after by Dr. Grabow collectors. It was made in fairly limited numbers as one of the pipes in the three-decade-long R. J. Renolds/Dr. Grabow coupon program, one of the most successful coupon programs of all times.The Westbrook line of Dr. Grabow pipes were made from Dr. Grabow's best brair and featured some of the best carving and rustication of any of the Dr. Grabow pipes.They are the only line of Dr. Grabow pipes to have an orange spade logo embedded in the stem instead of the traditional Dr. Grabow white spade logo.The Westbrook was named after a popular model of the Dodge automobile of the 1950s.This one has the Ajustomatic system that allows the pipe smoker to turn the stem clockwise as far as he or she wants until it is aligned in the desired smoking position.The mouthpiece on this one has no teeth marks. This pipe has only the slightest hint of a tooth abrasion but I do not grind down mouthpieces and destroy their structural integrity. The air channel through the shank has been hand rebored to a precise 4mm. The finish o f the pipe has been treated with a coat of car anuba wax.
