It is the signature piece of the Secret Art Collection, released in 1999 and sold out at the publisher. This work was adapted posthumously from the 1970 original acrylic on canvas board. Joseph Katz is Dr. Seuss's imagining of the famed bible story. Joseph was the beloved 11th son of Jacob, who gifted him a multicolored coat, turning his brothers envy into hatred. They sold Joseph to traders who took him to Egypt, where he would eventually predict, prepare for and then lead his people, including his brothers, through seven years of famine.This serigraph is the signature piece of the Secret Art collection and was used as the cover of the book The Secret Art of Dr. Seuss. It is painted on archival canvas and stretched and mounted to a frame, measures 44" x 22" and comes with it's original certificate of authenticity. This one is in beautiful condition overall with very bright colors and looks excellent on a wall, but it does have some subtle imperfections that are noticeable when viewing horizontal at an angle the light that are insignificant but need to be mentioned. Please look at the pictures closely, this is such a fine example of his work and you will find that these blemishes are miniscule. And now, an open letter to the universe...This is a beautifully rare piece that is meant for the right buyer and is an excellent launching point for someone wanting to build an art portfolio with an exclusively rare item of one of the most well-known artists on the planet. I am a tenacious art collector and would be cautious over a piece that is somewhat flawed but only if the seller didn't mention it in a dishonest way. I have fielded many, many emails about this piece and there is justified interest because of what it is (an extremely rare piece that is appreciating) and who it was painted by (the venerable Dr. Seuss!). If you are looking for this piece, you may have noticed that this has been up for auction before. While everyone has had good intent, the right buyer has not come along yet, I am hopeful that it's for just cause and after this auction it will end up in the right hands of someone who will truly appreciate it!eBay suggested that I do not put language like "Please do not bid if you don't intend to buy" as it might deter bidding action which I understand and of course comply with, I want as much interest as possible and as much bidding action as possible. However, I feel that I must mention that I am selling this not for profit or any kind of scam but to make money to live on. I think it is unfair that some have such a cavalier attitude towards bidding, buying and then deciding after the close of the auction that they shouldn't have bid on it well aware of what it is and then deciding to return it! I am unemployed and an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Military that has proudly served in the Persian Gulf and am using eBay as a vehicle earn money to pay for things like rent and food.
