Gorgeous antique Dresden Thieme Carl porcelain figurine of a seated harlequin wearing a mask with a pitcher . The Harlequin is a figure from the Commedia dell'Arte, a popular satirical theatre originating in Italy in the 16th. c. He is characterized by his bright checkered costume and trickster qualities. The character was the source of inspirations for many Meissen Dresden figurines, here he is depicted seated on tree stump, black hat in one hand & pitcher in the other. The antique hand made figurine is beautifully hand decorated with bright colours and gold accents.Originally designed by Johan Joachim Kaendler circa 1765.
