Most bulldog pipes are squat and stout, like their namesake breed. Kaywoodie's 06C goes in the opposite direction, with a long, slim stem, which lends this pipe a graceful air. The 4-digit shape number and the "Aged Bruyere" stamp date this pipe to the mid 1930s, when the Drinkless line still contained Kaywoodie's highest grade of briar. You simply will not see wood of this quality in today's pipes; the briar used in the early part of last century is lightweight, close-grained, and beautiful. This pipe, made three quarters of a century ago, was produced at a time when Kaywoodie was considered the king of American pipes, with prices and quality that rivaled Dunhill. Pipes from this era are known for their great smoking qualities, and this one is in very good shape, with many more years of service left in it. Its previous owner obviously enjoyed it, but maintained it well. T are no toothmarks on the stem, and no scorching on the rim!
