DUG AMERICAN INDIAN STONE GORGET GEORGIA #906 5 Day Auction--This is a very fine looking American Indian stone gorget that was dug in Georgia, Southwest of Atlanta. The area is on the Yellow Jacket River and t are a good many natural springs t Our friend that we bought this piece, and two others, from has lived very near this spot his whole life. After it rains heavily, he goes out searching. We have been finally blessed with much needed rain starting last Thursday. Saturday we got the call to come and see what he found. This gorget measures 2 9/16" long x 1 1/2" wide at the widest x not quite 1/4" thick at the thickest part. It is a grayish tan with the one end looking more orangish, which may be from our Georgia soil. The gorget has 2 completely drilled through holes with one partially drilled hole and inscribed designs on both sides. Ed feels the piece was originally polished. Our friend just washed the red Georgia clay off of it and you can still see w some of the clay is stuck in the crevices. This gorget is whole and is not chipped or cracked. The condition is excellent.
