Brass wax seal with dark stone engraved with a full rigged 18th century sailing ship. Dug in the early 1970s at Kingsmill Plantation (owned by Lewis Burwell IV from 1744-1775) near Williamsburg,Va.on private property with written permission ! Burwell resigned as Naval officer in 1775 and moved to Mecklenburg,Co. Va. The wax impression shown in the Va. historical society was made from this seal! The sad part,the face has 3 hairline cracks,but does not detract from what it is !I am selling this for a friend who is a knowledgeable archeologist who is liquidating part of his collection ! It is being sold as is !
