A true Museum Quality Rarity... a 1944 / 1945 Crystal Presentation Box. Fantastic Hand Painted Salmon - extraordinary detail - on the underside of the lid. Bevelled edges and gold leaf/paint of edges as well. The note that has always accompanied this piece states: "Box given to CBBR by the Duke of Westminster in lieu of the record salmon he (CBBR) caught in Scotland" . Plaque reads: LOCH MORE + Royal House of Windsor touchmark + September 1944 / Eaton + Wheat bundle symbol + CHRISTMAS 1945. Being Christmas, I thought this would be an appropriate time for selling. Measures 4 3/4" in length x 3 1/2" wide. Rather heavy. Re. condition - great clarity, but has some minor issues - lower right corner of the lid is gently rounded - appears to have been professionally smoothed at one time, probably due to a chip. Upper right corner of lid also has two minor chips on the Underside. A couple of minute "fleabites" or pinprick chips on the lid. Box itself appears flawless and original. I assume that the metal plaque is sterling silver, however it is not marked anyw in terms of metal content and I do not wish to polish it - leaving that to the discretion of the successful bidder. This is one of the most fascinating pieces I have come to own and may have appeal to a variety of collectors... blue blood, fishing derbys, fishing trophies, WWII, British read more
