This is a vintage used estate Dunhill pipe with markings that indicate the age, style and size, which is based on Dunhill's unusual dating / stamping guide, one of which I shall include with the pipe delivery. My father got the guide from Alfred Dunhill of London, Inc. in London in 1981. The guide says the Patent No of 1341418/20 only being used in 1943, but this pipe does not have the underlined 3 after the MADE IN ENGLAND mark on the bottom of the pipe as it does in the guide. This inconsistancy makes the year of make uncertain but an educated guess. It is a shell type (rough) briar with straight stem The color is dark brown with a reddish hue. The pipe has been gently smoked by my grandfather who bought it new along with hundreds of others. The amount of smoking in no way compromises the integrity of the pipe. Little or no deterioration from use. It is in very good condition, functionally as good as new. The plastic stem must have been replaced because it appears to be much newer than the pipe. My grandfather must have had it sent to Dunhill in London for this repair. Things break. He knew how to get them properly repaired. If it is original, it sure looks good.
